I come from a country with LOTS of rain. Then I moved to Los Angeles where it rains some of the time but not what I would call A LOT. Then I moved to the High Desert where it rains so seldom that when it DOES rain a lot, the streets flood because the earth is so hard and dry that it doesn't readily absorb the rainfall. The drains are clogged because so many people (residents AND travelers passing through) have no care about what they do with their trash so it clogs up what few drains we have. I actually couldn't get to work one day because where I live, on a bump, I have to drive through "lower" sections to get across the main street... but all those lower sections were under water! I was already on my way to work when I was about to turn on the street I usually use - where a car was stuck up to their tail lights in the water! No Way! So I drove straight instead, hoping to be able to take one of the next few streets...but I didn't even make it that far because there's another DIP before the next side street that was ALSO under water. So, I turned around and went back home, called my supervisor to let her know I wasn't able to get to work that day. I saw later in the online newspaper that the OTHER side street I would take was ALSO under water and to get there I would have to cross yet another dip that was under water... That's just one of the FLOODED stories...lol.
Why am I writing about this one incident and all this rain? I don't really know. It hasn't rained in quite some time. It's hot and I'm quite miserable sometimes. The house where we (my husband and I) live is poorly insulated and the windows single paned. It gets well over 90 degrees in the middle of summer (because once the nights stay warm, the house never cools off anymore) and down to almost 50 degrees in the winter. The AC/Heater unit is inadequate for this house nor can we afford to run it for long. We also can't afford to move to a different house.
I'm usually very happy to get to go to work...because I work in an office where the temp is mostly cool! :) And if not, I can turn on my small desk fan to help out, or my little heater unit if it's too cold!
Well, I just wanted to share that little bit of trivia :)
